4 Different Types Of Dental Implants

Posted on

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth in your mouth. Dental implants help keep your other teeth from shifting out of place, and they help protect your jawbone from deterioration. They also support eating and talking efforts. There are various types of dental implants you can get based on your particular situation.

Type #1: Dental Crown

If you are missing a single tooth, the most common dental implant option is a dental implant with a dental crown. The dental implant is placed into the missing tooth socket, and you go through a healing process. During this healing process, the gum and tissue will form around the implant, helping to secure it in place.

Once the healing process from the single implant placement is complete, the custom-made crown will be put in place. This crown will be made to work with the shape, size, and color of the other teeth in your mouth. Once it is in place, the dental implant with a dental crown will look like a natural tooth.

Type #2: Dental Bridge

If you are missing multiple teeth right next to each other, you may want to consider a dental bridge. With a dental bridge, multiple prosthetic teeth are fused together to replace the missing teeth. You also may not have to get an implant for each tooth that is missing. With a dental bridge, fewer implants will be used to replace a more significant number of teeth.

Type #3: Partial Dentures

If you are missing serval teeth in a row on either your upper or bottom arch, another option is partial dentures. Partial dentures are made to fill in the places where the teeth are missing. Dental implants are used to help hold the dentures in place. Once again, fewer implants are typically used than teeth that are missing.

Type #4: Full Dentures

If you are missing all of your teeth on either the upper or lower arch or even on both arches, you can get full dentures. A popular technique involves the all-on-4 technique, where four dental implants are placed on an arch, and the dentures are then attached to the implants.

If you are missing teeth, there is an option and a way for you to replace your missing teeth. Talk to your dentist to find out what your dental implant options are. There is a way with implants to restore your smile and improve your eating and speaking by getting your mouth back to where it should be.
